Description

This will be a wide-ranging presentation focusing on the most important developments within the nonprofit tax world from January of 2023 through June of 2024. Topics to be addressed include the following: The most updated information/guidance regarding nonprofits taking the Employee Retention Credit, Recent cases/examples regarding unrelated business income, Recent cases/examples regarding related party transactions, IRS nonprofit audit update, Strategies for successfully communicating with the Internal Revenue Service, Filing for tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service, Public support test strategies, Lobbying and political activities, Insider reasonable compensation documentation, and State issues.

Links to the e-materials will be listed with your course registration in your account on the MSCPA website seven calendar days before the course. You will receive an e-mail when the materials are available.

If you request printed materials, they will be available for pick up at the registration desk on the date of the class. The option to request printed materials is only available up to 5 business days prior to the course date. Walk-in registrants and those registering between 1 and 5 days before the course will be sent an electronic link to the e-materials by default. “Extra” printed course materials will not be available on site. Brian Yacker

Brian, a tax partner in Baker Tilly's Orange County, California office, specializes in non-profit organizations. Brian received his Bachelor of Science, finance and marketing, at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia) and his Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law (Bloomington, Indiana). Brian has nearly 30 years of experience providing tax, legal and accounting services and solutions to all types of non-profit organizations, including public charities, private foundations, university auxiliaries, social clubs, business leagues, labor organizations, social welfare organizations, water districts, athletic organizations, social services entities, hospitals, bids, veterans organizations. Brian provides reasonable compensation studies, lobbying studies, governance consulting, public support test consulting, unrelated business income studies, special events consulting, state charitable solicitation registration services and insider transaction analyses. Brian is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), American Bar Association (ABA) Exempt Organizations Committee, Board of Directors for the TE/GE EO Council, AICPA EO Tax Technical Resource Panel, and AICPA Non-profit Advisory Committee.
