SERVICES TO MEMBERS

Publications
Effective and timely communication is essential to any professional organization. Regular publications keep members informed of emerging accounting, tax and practice management issues and current events. The MSCPA Newsletter includes information about the Society, its local chapters and members, educational programs and developments within the accounting profession.

The CPE Catalog is published annually providing members with listings of seminars, courses and workshops available in Mississippi.

Continuing Professional Education
To enable Mississippi CPAs to meet the continuing education requirements set by the State Board of Public Accountancy, the MSCPA offers a number of educational seminars each year. These educational seminars are available at a discount to MSCPA members and cover a wide variety of areas of interest to accountants in public practice, government and industry.

Peer Review
The AICPA Peer Review Program is an educational and remedial program designed to help practitioners improve the quality of their practices. The MSCPA administers the peer review program in Mississippi and serves as a resource for Mississippi firms enrolled in the program.

Under the program, each CPA firm with an auditing practice is required to undergo   a system review every three years. Each firm that performs compilations and/or reviews is also required to undergo an engagement and/or report review every three years.

The MSCPA will assist members as they prepare for peer review. Educational seminars are offered periodically  in the state to train members to conduct reviews.

Legislative Activities
The MSCPA serves as the liaison between Mississippi CPAs and the Mississippi State Legislature. The MSCPA is located in Jackson to maintain a close working relationship with elected and appointed state government officials. The MSCPA's legislation committee closely monitors legislation and state agency proposals to determine their impact upon the profession.

Liaison Meetings
The Taxation Committee of the MSCPA has accepted the responsibility of liaison with the IRS and the State Tax Commission and meets regularly with both taxing authorities. MSCPA members are encouraged to submit topics and problems for consideration. The liaison group discusses, reviews and suggests possible solutions to these problems.

Consultation and Referral Services
The MSCPA consultation service provides free advice on professional matters. This informal and confidential service utilizes the professional knowledge represented by the MSCPA membership.

The MSCPA conducts a program to assist members in obtaining additional working hours by maintaining information on members who are available for per diem engagements and recommending these CPAs to employers.
